After the success of the art version (found at this link), the book Sun and snow becomes for everyone with the paperback version. Fermoeditore started “from above”, giving shape to the suggestions of the text and images using the straw paper, in Italy tied to food for tradition and of strong emotional performance; special papermaking solutions have been used for images and text in two languages, Italian and English, for a work to be read and browsed with pleasure.
The new version fulfill those who have more interest in the content than form and those who want a reading of quality at an affordable cost. Fermoeditore care remains the same: the packaging is minimalist yet elegant, materials and binding of a good standard, Robusti’s designs become pencils without losing any of its strength.
We want to recall that Sun and snow, by the journalist and writer Luigi Alfieri, have a particular structure: it is a novel built with short stories, 142 “confetti”, micro stories arranged in seemingly random order, of which only at the end it turns out the unitary plot. Set in Parma region in the ’60s, the story goes over fourteen years of life of the protagonist – from the age of innocence to the discovery of death – through the succession of months and seasons. Starting from June and arriving back in June, we see a child becoming an adult, you can see woods, fields, skies, rivers change colors and lights, issue new perfumes. Through the little Luigi we observe the changes of nature, remembering the pleasure of living immersed in the flow of time. Behind the actors, innocent child and countryside, there is a large chorus of characters told in a few lines, one of which, the father, gradually become, through death, the real “hero”.
The texts are accompanied by the drawings of the painter Enrico Robusti: images that go beyond the mere illustration of the story and become re-reading of the same reality, the same situations of human and natural views with a different eye, a different sensibility, creating a book in the book. The text is accompanied by a critical introduction by Paolo Briganti.
Sun and snow paperback, available online at this link consists of 135 pages with illustrations and until the beginning of May will be on sale in all newsagents of Parma at the price of EUR 11.50. It does not end here: for lovers of e-books, there are more surprises in sight.
