Places for cats

What makes a cat to choose, at home, a place rather than another? Curiosity leads the cat to explore every corner of its territory and to smell anything new, but the reasons for his preferences are sometimes mysterious. Apart from the search for niches hot in summer and cool in winter, or comfort – although the concept of comfort of cats can be very different from ours – so we find him lying in various positions on our favourite armchair, sofa, bed or various types of chair, other choices leave us a little more perplexing. And gives us fun.

After a quick survey and personal experience, to the top of the list I would put the empty cardboard boxes, also excellent as scrapers, and the computer keyboard, perhaps for its massaging effect especially if used for a stroll – strictly while human is using it. For a reassuring effect as the boxes, and more, are appreciated locations like the inside of the wardrobe, cabinets, drawers and “unders” – bed, armchair, chair, duvet… An appreciated match is “on the chair underneath the table”.

Most exhibitionists like to roll up into the centerpieces, or do the statues directly on the table, on the kitchen counter and, why not, on the shelves. Just to keep an eye on everything and maybe attract attention, if we let drop some snack. Baskets are excellent cat containers, out of which it is easy to see feline body parts hanging. In winter which place is better than radiator, inspiring acrobatics? Even a twenty pounds cat, if he wants, can magically sleep on it. In summer, do not forget the bathroom: the bathtub or the bidet can offer cool and shelter.

Nice then to lean or lie on (in?) bags, with camouflage preferences for black cats; to make feel guilty a human who is about to leave nothing is better than a stop in the suitcase preparation, with reproachful look annexed. In addition to cardboard, other top material is paper: newspaper, flyers, books – preferably while reading – but it’s ok even a poor slip of few centimeters. As the saying goes “where there is paper, cat stretches” (you’ve never heard? I made it up^©).

Quite simply, even one or more house humans are very good at home to rest upon. Or the breakfast or lunch placemat, of course during breakfast or lunch. In short, together is better: in many cases even when it is about going to a meeting to the toilet.
