Curiously that, the very day on which in Italy falls the Feast of the Black Cat, I find myself writing – one more time – about cats. Since the dawn, as is well known, the cat is considered the magical animal par excellence: worshipped as deities, demonized as a familiar of witches, even studied by a branch of divination, ailuromancy, to predict future events. Muse and fellow of artists, the cat has its place of honor in the studio of a painter and on a writer’s desk.
It is well known by the prestigious Magical Cats Academy of Fiesole (here the Facebook page), free non-profit international association, legally recognized, which deepens and spreads for almost thirty years the culture of the cat bringing together writers, intellectuals, artists and scientists. Embracing the wonderful motto “For Science, for Beauty, for Pleasure“, the Academics clarify well the task the cat has had and has in the creative life of each artist or sensitive soul who loves its silent companionship.
The Magical Cats Academy was founded in 1992 by the will and inspiration of Giordano Alberghini, friend of cats unfortunately passed away in April of this year, that with Marina Alberghini Pacini, his wife and current president of the Academy, found the golden thread that binds the cat to the many fields of human talent and decided to follow him and founded a place that would witness this constant, magical, cultural presence, medium between Arts and Civilization. This authority, extraordinary and unique in its kind, aims to spread the Culture of the Cat through the works of great artists, intellectuals and scientists cat lovers of all times emphasizing the influence of our favorite in the fields of Human Knowledge, and has as its purpose the making culture, protectionism and ecology in a new and harmonious way. With the support and collaboration of the most important organizations and institutions in Italy and abroad, it is already a reality widely appreciated in many countries.
Among his tutelary deities is proud to count four thousand “Academicians of Past Time” ranging from Dante to Leonardo da Vinci, from Giordano Bruno to Confucius, from William Shakespeare to Gogol, from J. L. Borges to WB Yeats, from E. A. Poe to H. P. Lovecraft, from Pontormo to Matisse… but the Academy is not limited to the great personalities of the past and it calls to be part of its large family all those who, to this day, have established themselves in the arts and cultural activities allowing the cat to accompany them as a companion and guide. Among Italian academics there is also the late Giorgio Celli and among the foreign academic the largest heroine of battles in favor of animals Brigitte Bardot.
