The premise is this: ask yourself, what would have happened? If D-Day had failed? If ancient Rome and its empire had remained untouched? History interprets and weaves threads of subtle and unpredictable plots, the beauty of the game is that we know where it has its beginnings, but no one can predict the epilogue.
“Ucronia”, or “alternate history” comes from the Greek meaning “no time” or “hypothetical time”, for us dreamers Fermomagics is a generator of alternate realities to the official ones, history is reinterpreted and the world follows a new and unexpected course of events (by the way, if there were ………………………………………………..? or the ………………………………? this is a creative exercise, copy the email, please fill it in and send to redazione@fermoeditore.it, we’ll use the answers for the next articles).
“Uchronie l’utopie dans l’histoire”, of 1876: the term is born in essays and novels and today still insires a historical science fiction industry which spans fiction and comic strips, graphic and fashion design, also involving the world of film and video games.
The creative artistic and cultural movement that best interprets and satisfies this desire is that of # STEAMPUNK, steam but with the addition of the term “punk”, to give the idea of the dirty steam of an anarchist society. In recent years # STEAMPUNK has grown and made a move, it has the merit of bringing together groups of followers who come from various influences such as gothic, dark, grunge, industrial, dirty punk etc.
Today it creates a renewed and strong tendency where visual arts rule the roost, the steam as a primary energetic industrial source, watchmaking, magnetism and mechanics merge with the technology of the present, giving rise to fantastic projects: semi-mechanical phones, computers with brass keyboards, steam-powered cars, new music players covered with leather and screws, complex gears that move amplifiers equipped with trombones from gramophone … basically all steampunkers play at imagining “what would the past have been like if the future had happened before”.
