I personally “know” the designer Calatroni and in fact I got in touch with him to talk about this, but my love for Japan made me change direction, leading me to dwell on his recent photographic work.
Sergio Maria Calatroni 360° artist, what is the transition from architecture, industrial design to photography?
I would not speak of a passage, but rather of stages that have come my life, a variety of interests, significant moments and encounters that have occurred which led me naturally to follow my inclinations. There are different ways of looking at the world and its phenomena, different ways to express themselves. On the other hand the three things are not so far from each other.
How was the path that led you to “Cucinare il Silenzio” (Cooking the Silence)? Images on bright background, the color of the flower and the skeleton invite you to an inner peace…
“Cucinare il Silenzio” (Cooking the Silence) was born from a meditation on simplicity, beauty of life, the importance of daily life and the attention to the little things that make the day a unique miracle. It was born from the need to reclaim the ancient values associated with a simple gesture, human and spiritual. It is a prayer, a thank you, and inner peace is its direct consequence.
You use the camera to capture the soul of the flower that is being photographed…
The camera is just a tool, I use it not using it and forget it. The camera as a tool in itself does not interest me, the important thing is to get to the essence of things around me.
