Extravagant bookshelves… the web is full of photo galleries. The interesting thing is that the designers have managed to combine the functionality of the object by placing their books to particular and extravagant appearance… I’ll almost dare say: trendy.
A book itself has a cover, a paper print and a smell that characterizes it and makes it unique. For this reason a book, in addition to strengthening the mind and culture, is an object that decorates and helps warm austere places, places without a personality, making a home real and snug. A book shows a part of one’s personality and it is therefore an element to put on display because it can make a home a place full of a person’s hidden self, a place where you can feel good about yourself.
But you don’t necessarily have to have big walls in order to preserve your memories, some very modern and trendy furnishings may reserve many surprises able to create a particular combination between culture and fashion. Books are surely one of the elements that make us feel at home and every home must have at least one bookshelf with our best friends, friends that have kept us company on those long rainy days. Also the “eco” style has struck many bookshelf designers. Many have made them into the shape of a tree or a leaf in order to compensate our lack of green in our lives and let me just say they do a remarkable job.
Bookshelves of all kinds, also sculptures like the creator of Metamorphosis, Sebastian Errazuriz, has tried to recreate by making the branching of a tree, as a support of culture. The branches extend horizontally in a very imaginative and engaging way; thanks to the presence of flat points, the books can be placed and kept in order. It’s an extremely expensive bookshelf ($ 75,000), considered to be an artwork. For example there is a bookshelf made of corten and stainless steel which reproduces the entire geographic area of the United States using the boundaries between the states to mark off the areas. With plays on depth and perspective, to which you can contribute by filling each shelf with your books, the result is certainly impressive. And if you think that the strange and non-linear shape can create a problem for your huge amount of books, know that the size of the bookshelf is: 5.5m x 3.5m x 40 cm. Is it big enough to hold all your books? At this point the only problem is having a wall big enough…
