Giampaolo Ricò, an esteemed photographer from Parma, has devoted part of his 25-year career to studying floral subjects. Over the years this study has morphed into an account of the changes at work within the artist: Giampaolo Ricò’s flowers are more than a mere artistic reproduction of the shapes or colours created by nature; they reflect the attitudes of the observer who portrays them – in particular the sensuality that exudes unabashed from the petals, the pistils and very often the relationship with other flowers, in which shapes and colours design the fil rouge of the most beautiful of love stories. To portray these flowers, Giampaolo Ricò used a 4 x 5 optical bench, flat film and a particular kind of light, projected where required by an American-built optical fibre.
